Every once in a while I have the pleasure of working with someone who is not only beautiful but who is also a willing participant in my experimentation with light and technique. Stephanie is just such a person, and she allows me to try things that I might not get to try in a traditional shoot. The result is always a mixed bag, from photos that inevitably make me question what I was thinking when I shot them, to the handful that hit the mark as far as what I wanted to accomplish. In between are the many that will serve as “study material” – images that fall short of what I was hoping for but which will serve as a reference for what I need to do or try to do in future shoots.
Having worked with Stephanie before, my goal on this shoot was simple: Dramatic images with simple lighting – perhaps a few that would have a flavor of old Hollywood – that would capture not only her beauty but a bit of attitude, as well. I’m fairly pleased with the results; of course I look through the images a week later and think of all of the things I should have done, but that’s part of learning and building the reference for future shoots.
